Rich Lown Interview – Live & Love Music

Rich chats about his debut full band headline gig, musical inspirations and plans for 2017…

Hi Rich, you have a very special show coming up at the White Rock Theatre on 24th March 2017. Tell us a bit about that.

For a long time now, I’ve wanted to hold my own headline show and showcase my previous two albums in all their glory, exactly how they were recorded and not just acoustically. It’s been 10 years now that I’ve been writing and performing and I’ve always played acoustically. To be able to put a band together and play at my home town venue to say thank you to everyone who has supported me over the years, has been something I wanted to do for a long time and I can’t wait! I will have two fantastic support artists in Holly Fraser and Bethan Jakob and a band that boasts playing credits with Bryan Adams, The Darkness, Status Quo, Artful, Craig David and much more. The night will also be recorded for a live album scheduled for summer 2017 release so stay tuned for that!

Sounds exciting! Congratulations on your nomination for Best Solo Male at the nation’s first televised Unsigned Music Awards 2016. What was that like?

Thank you! Yeah it was a massive surprise actually. I had applied a good 12 months before and a collection of music industry experts had chosen me along with just 3 other people for my category. Apparently there were a good 5,000 applicants, so it’s a real honour and confidence boost to be selected. The night itself was great too, lots of press, lots of celebs and lots of beer! A night I’ll remember for a long time for sure.

What else have you been up to recently?

Aside from rehearsing hard for my show in March, I’ve been writing some new material. I’m actually about to move into a flat in Brighton with my music producer Olli so I’m sure there will be plenty of new music and new projects on the horizon!

Who are you listening to at the moment?

I’m a huge Passenger fan and find him a huge inspiration. We have quite similar guitar techniques and his voice and lyrics are incredible. I do listen to him a lot and similar artists really. I’m a huge John Mayer fan, Birdy fan and any emotive songwriters that stay true to their style and don’t sell out!

What’s coming up for you in 2017?

2017 started really strong for me. With my music now being featured on every British Airways flight throughout the year, I’m starting to make some huge strides. People are stumbling across my music daily from all over the world and long may that continue! One new year’s resolution is to collaborate more. I’d really like to start writing with lots of other artists and even DJs! So if you’re reading this and want to get writing with me, hit me up! ☺
