Riot Child Interview – Live & Love Music

Swedish singer songwriters Alice and Amanda discuss fashion, new music releases, and performing in LA…

Hi girls! So you’re currently out in LA performing at The Viper Room. How did that first come about and how’s the experience been so far?

We have always been in love with the Sunset Strip and The Viper Room, so when our agency asked us if we wanted to play some shows there, there was no question about it! We love that it’s so intimate and that everyone that comes out there is so passionate about music. We wish there were more places like The Viper Room.

We’re loving your latest music video Liar. What was it like filming that?

Thank you so much!! We had so much fun during the recordings of Liar! We filmed the band scenes in this demolished house that almost felt and looked like it was haunted, which gave the video something extra! For the scenes on the cliff by the water we took a taxi (since we don’t have a car) all the way out to a beach in Malibu and hiked for a couple of hours to finally get to the spot with a beach famous for the tide water. It makes the stones and rocks looks almost black, but at the same time it was very time limiting since we knew the tide water would begin to creep on us. So we filmed each other by the water and then hiked our way back before the tide was too high!

How would you describe the Swedish music industry?

Sweden is a great place to be if you want to do music! A lot of great artists and songwriters are coming from Sweden so we are proud to call ourselves Swedes out here in LA. There are a lot of music schools in Sweden, so many people study music growing up which is a great thing!

Is there anywhere in the world you would love to perform next?

We’d love to travel around Europe and then we also really want to go to New York, since we heard the live scene there is awesome. It would also be great to go to smaller cities and play at their local clubs.

How do you feel when you perform on stage?

Alice: The feeling when you’re playing on stage is one of the best feelings, and to get the connection with the audience while you’re playing or they sing along to one of your songs.

Amanda: It’s like another world up there. I love it. But it goes so fast though! You are so excited to get up there and then before you even know it your times up and you don’t wanna stop!

What’s been your biggest achievement so far?

To get the chance to play in the Philippines and meet some fans that have been following us for years was one of the best feelings ever. We also got the honour to play with the legend Robbie Krieger from The Doors.

Wow, that sounds awesome! So who influences you?

Alice: We both listen to a lot of different music. I grew up to a lot of soul and jazz! But I listened to a lot of hip hop and punk rock later like Kanye West, Pharrell, Blink 182, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Taking Back Sunday etc.

Amanda: I love all kinds of music and I would say I get influenced by everything and nothing. When I write music I mainly just write, without thinking too much what direction it’s heading in or what it sounds like. I look up to other artists who are working hard and the ones who do the music they want to do, without chasing a sound or a trend!

Asides from music, what else do you enjoy doing?

You’re saying there’s a real world out there? Asides music? No, but seriously, we don’t do too much else other than music. Lately, we’ve been trying to go out to different places around LA, places that preferably no one else knows about, to take some cool pictures.

Alice: I like to take random pictures of things I see. I also love sports. I’ve always played soccer since I was 6 years old until music took over my brain.

Amanda: I love to paint and to film and edit videos… and to watch Alice when she is playing soccer. Sometimes she forces me to be the goalkeeper just so she can score…

Where do you get your fashion inspiration from?

Amanda: I love street fashion and modern art! Combining something ugly with something beautiful to create a cool balance. I’ve always been obsessed with buying things that no one wants to wear and then totally giving them a makeover.

Alice: I mostly just buy clothes that I love! Thrift shops usually have the best shops and there are some really good ones here in LA!

How would you describe your fans?

The best ever. We love our fans and we love that they are all over the world. They have always been supporting us and we hope to meet every single one of them one day!

What’s coming up for you this year?

We are finally going release some music! We’ve been holding on to it for so long and we don’t want to do that anymore. Sometimes a song feels old before we are even close to releasing it, and we wanna change that from now on. We’re also working on 2 new videos and some other stuff that we can’t tell you about yet…

Sounds excitng! We can’t wait for your new releases!
