The Tailormade Interview – Live & Love Music

The guys discuss sell out shows, their dedicated fan base and upcoming Taken tour support…

Hi guys! You’ve already been making some huge waves on the UK music scene over the last couple of years. What’s been your biggest achievement so far?

I think we’d all have different answers. Aaron absolutely loved playing with, and meeting, Cee Lo Green. Matt is a huge Busted fan, so supporting them was amazing and Jack just loves any gig with a huge audience! It really has been an exciting few years.

How did you all first get into music?

Growing up in Manchester, Aaron learnt guitar from listening to the classics such as Oasis and Arctic Monkeys. Matt played guitar throughout Uni and got into it more as a hobby during his Drama Degree and Jack was into Musical Theatre from a really young age. He was always going to be on stage!

What’s the story behind the band name? How did you come up with it?

We didn’t really have a band name to start with and we were just gigging. It was only when a few people in Carlisle (where we went to Uni) started asking for our Facebook page that we decided we’d need a name for the band. ‘The Tailormade’ came from a combination of things really. The main reason was because the songs we were doing at the time were ‘covers with a twist’, so we felt like we were ‘tailor-making’ the songs into our own fresh style.

How would you describe your sound?

We always say it’s a mixture of styles. Maybe Lily Allen meets The Streets? Meets Olly Murs? That’s the best we can describe it… maybe ‘Indy Brit-Pop’.

You sold out the O2 Islington Academy 2 – What was that show like?

I think this was a big moment for all three of us. We left our jobs in the summer of 2015 and it was really scary. We had no strategy, but we knew we had to go full time. We decided we’d just set a date to do a launch of some music and we did it. We set the date for March and had about 7 months to get everything ready. When we sold it out there was a real sense of achievement from all 3 of us and a confirmation we’d made the right decision.

You’re supporting Taken on tour in March and April. Tell us a bit about that.

So, ‘Taken’ are really good friends of ours. We met them a few years back and just kept bumping into each other. Matt ended up driving them around on a school tour for a couple of weeks, and people were going crazy for them. They’re really genuine guys and I think that’s why we all connect so well. We’ve supported them before, but this will be the first time we’ve done a tour date outside of the UK (Amsterdam). It’s going to be a really lovely few gigs, as a lot of their fans know us quite well now too. It’s not a traditional support gig where you’re playing to a completely cold audience. We always enjoy a ‘Taken’ gig.

Sum up your fans in one sentence.

More loyal than anything!!

(Our fans are so engaging on social media it’s really incredible. We look at other bands social interaction, and they may have more ‘likes’ on their page, but the engagement we get is incredible. I know people say it all the time, but we really wouldn’t be where we are if it wasn’t for them!)

If you could put together a supergroup of musicians and singers, dead or alive, who would they be?

Oh wow! Erm… I know Matt and Jack would choose Otis Redding, Aaron would have Noel Gallagher, and you’d probably have to chuck MJ, Prince, Freddy and Elvis in there. Don’t even ask what genre they’d be doing! I’m sure they’d sell out anyway! We’d love to manage that band.

That definitely sounds like an awesome line up! What else is coming up for you in 2017?

We’ve got some really big support slots coming up, but can’t announce yet. And we’ll be releasing new music towards the end of summer, so lots to look forward to!

Thanks guys! Look forward to seeing what this year has to bring for you!
